Baaghi 3 Review - Narendra Gupta

*REVIEW *

1) Baaghi 3
Rating :1.5/5
Duration: 147 min.
Producer :Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, Fox Star Studios.

(This film is about the gruesome limits our leading hero Tiger Shroff can go to... to save his brother, played by Riteish Deshmukh who is held as captive by terrorist).

PLUS POINTS
1) Tiger Shroff (War, Student Of The Year 2, Baaghi 2) is back with his successful franchise “Baaghi”. He is in full-form and carries the entire film on his shoulder single handedly. He is India’s answer to Rambo. He feels that only action is needed in bollywood. However, acting is a must too. Just by working out in gym and destroying cars/ helicopters will not help him to establish as successful actor. Riteish Deshmukh (Marjaavan, Housefull 4, Total Dhamaal) plays second fiddle to Tiger and delivers a decent performance. Shraddha Kapoor is seen hurling abuses in her introductory scene. She is average. Ankita Lokhande is passable. Disha Patani looks hot but sadly even she could not save the film with her dance number. Jaideep Ahlawat and Jameel Khoury as villians are passable.
2) Ahmed Khan (Baaghi 2) has done a great job.. not as a director but as a monitor of action sequences. All choreographers have a history of being unsuccessful directors (Ganesh Acharya, Remo D’Souza, Ahmed Khan and many more).
3) First half is entertaining with double meaning jokes and some meaningful action.
4) Cinematography (Santhana Krishnan Ravichandran) is just superb.. Locations of Serbia are well explored and other production values are of international standard.
5) Though we have seen Tiger Shroff do it all in ‘Baaghi 2' and more recently in 'War'. This time it’s on a bigger scale. In fact, this kind of action is never seen in Hindi cinema before. The stunts are set in Syria but it was actually shot in Serbia which is highlight of the film. However, its lengthy and second half is full of mindless action without any logic. Ahmed Khan has not only blown up 100 cars but also 3 helicopters. Sadly, even that could not create any impact.

MINUS POINTS
1) Story Sajid Nadiadwala) is ordinary and lacks novelty. It is a remake of a Tamil film “Vettai” (2012) starring Madhavan & Arya which was directed by N.Linguswamy. Though first half is copied frame to frame, second half has been changed. It's Riteish who sports the khaki uniform but all the action is actually left to Tiger to take on. Its so childish where Ritesh keeps calling out to his brother everytime he's in trouble. Ohh! Did I mention that he's a police officer?
Action scenes are long at many places and humanly impossible for one man to achieve. Tiger & Shraddha enter Syria with such ease as if they are going to a picnic. Even the militant  and his henchman look like some roadside local Dharavi goons who Tiger catches as if its a childs play. Film has no head or tail when it comes  to storyline. Many emotional moments have been stuffed in some father-son (Jackie Shroff) scenes along with India-Pakistan content fails to connect emotionally. Romance is missing between the lead pair. Dialogues too, are not that effective and fail to create an impact. Screenplay (Farhad Samji, Sparsh Khetarpal, Tasha Bhambra, Madhur Shrama)is very ordinary.
2) Director (Ahmed Khan) has publicized the film as the highest action entertainer. But it just falls flat. He has stuffed action everywhere even when it’s not  needed with no connection to the story. Wish he would have invested half of his time and money for a good story writer from his action budget, then probably film could have fared better.
3) Editing (Rameshwar S .Bhagat) needed to be more tight. Action scenes are breath taking but have been unnecessarily stretched. Trimming by 20 min would’ve helped. Second half is a torture to watch.
4) Music (Vishal-Shekhar, Bappi Lahiri, Tanishk Bagchi, Sachet-Parampara, Rochak Kohli,Pranaay Rijia) is recreated. "Dus Bahane 2.0" is a recreation of "Dus Bahane" from film "Dus" by Vishal–Shekhar which comes after the film is over (Thank God)! The second song "Bhankas" is a remake of "Ek Aankh Marun To" from the 1984 film Tohfa, originally composed by Bappi Lahiri. The third Song ‘Do You Love Me’ is a recreation of British record producer TroiBoy’s song. Rest are passable.

BOX OFFICE
Lot of buzz has already been built due to which audience is naturally excited to see the film. But with coronavirus scare, it will be difficult to say how many people actually venture out to actually see the movie. First 3 days are likely to be good but the same can’t be said from Monday onwards. Tiger’s die hard fans will definetly love him and is likely to do well in single screens.

BOX OFFICE RATING: 2.5/5

2) Kaamyaab
Rating:2.5/5
Duration:117 min
Producer: Gauri Khan,Manish Mundra,Gaurav Verma.

(This film is an ode to all junior artists and their contribution to Indian cinema where one such character actor decides to make a comeback to the big screen)

PLUS POINTS
 1) Sanjay Mishra shines as solo lead actor. The emotions and comedy he brings out with his character feel realistic. Deepak Dobriyal lends good support. It’s a treat to see all veteran actors like Birbal, Avtar Gill, Viju Khote, Ramesh Goyal, Guddi Maruti and others in one frame.
2)Dilaouges (Radhika Anand) are quite good and highlight of the film. “Bas enjoying life, aur option hi kya hai” is shown as his iconic dialogue which we all can relate to.
3) Director (Hardik Mehta) in his debut has done a fantastic job. He brings out the reality behind all the glitz and glamour of an artist.

MINUS POINTS
1) Film does not have any face value which can pull the crowds to the theatre.
2) Publicity was laid back. The buzz was only limited to Shah Rukh Khan presenting the film.

BOX-OFFICE
With “Baaghi 3” releasing on the same day, collections will be largely affected as it could hardly get in good number of theatres.

Thanks & Regards
